Eco-One is a completely enclosed vivarium. Once you put living creatures in, they can not get out.
This is Eco-One. Its’ name is taken from the Latin “Eco” – meaning household or habitat, and it is the crowning structure of the River Bottom concept. It extends controlled living habitat space to the next level, above your deep water aquarium. Eco-One like all of the structures that make up River Bottom, is multifaceted. The bed or ground surface divides environments between terrestrial and aquatic. Only amphibious creatures and insects will move between the two environments. Amphibians and insects access the two environments through Habitat Corridors. By extending plants through the Habitat Corridor, or HC’s you can create game trails used by crab and insects that thrive in either world. Surrounding the Habitat Corridor is a Retaining Wall designed to prevent debris from falling into your aquarium. Debris you ask? Eco-One was created to simulate any kind of Earth surface environment. Soil, sand, gravel, rock or a mixture of all of the above, you can embellish the environment in Eco-One to suit the needs of whatever creature you put in it. Eco-One is a completely enclosed structure. Once you put living creatures in, they can only escape if you fail to seal the environment. It should be noted; the better you are at habitat design the more likely you will unwittingly create a living ecosystem for small flying insects. The River Bottom concept team sees this as a sign of thoughtful implementation. Eco-One can be home to many species of small lizards, tarantulas and snakes. Feeding is done through small access holes on either side of the structure. Because you can fill the bed of Eco-One with soil or gravel you have the potential to grow live plants. The light source for Eco-One is the standard aquarium light you already have. Because the content of the bed in Eco-One may block light from shining through into your aquarium we equipped Eco-One with additional bright LED lighting that shines directly through the acrylic. This lighting directed straight down into your aquarium creates long lasting bright warm lighting for your viewing pleasure.
Made from strong etched acrylic, this model was designed to be placed along the back wall of your aquarium. This model has a sturdy 43.5 square inch base and should be installed along the flat bottom surface of your aquarium. The Crab Ridge structure comes in two designs, one with Aquatic Access Holes and the other without. The “Standard”, designed containing Aquatic Access Holes or A.A.H, is intended to be filled with large pieces of river rock, or debris. Place the rock in the basket in such a manner as to create a reef structure, (seams and crevasses in between the rocks) for fish and aquatic animals to inhabit. The Standard habitat is highly suitable for the breeding of fish and crabs. Because the access holes allow entry from the main body of your aquarium into a smaller more restrictive environment, fish and other aquatic animals naturally sense it is not suitable for long term habitation. While larger fish and crabs may enter and breed, they will not stay because of its’ restrictive nature. Stands without aquatic access wholes are water tight and designed to be filled with sediments. These stands are idea for burrowing insects and natural plant growth. The humid nature of your aquarium omits the need for manual watering of any kind to soil, making plant growth natural and almost inevitable. It should be noted that insects will not be the only thing burrowing in your sediment. Crabs are natural burrowers and highly likely to push your sediments around, even pushing large volumes of sediments into your aquarium’s water. It is critical that if you fill your stand with soil, you should plan or make preparation for aggressive filtration of your aquarium’s water. As Crabs do not have gills it is crucial to create an environment that allows them to fully escape the water. The etched acrylic exterior walls of our stands create by design an excellent climbing surface which allows crabs to scale the walls and reach suitable terrestrial environments.
